About Us

Founded in 1974 as Community Action Against Rape (CAAR), Signs of Hope (SOH) began as the combined effort of Florence McClure and Sandra Petta, two women living in Las Vegas who were outraged by the lack of resources and respect for those affected by sexual support and resources they need to move through the process of healing.

    Counseling Center Professional Training Opportunities

    Bachelor Level

The SOH Counseling Center is currently a recognized practicum site for the following bachelor level programs:

    •    • University of Nevada Las Vegas Social Work program
    •    • Nevada State University Psychology
            and Criminal Justice programs

Open to other programs with compatible interests, please email Liz at Liz@sohlv.org.

Our new counseling center practicum program allows bachelor level students a great opportunity for developing an understanding of interacting with the specific population that we serve. Practicum students will provide direct services to survivors of sexual assault, and their loved ones in need of extra resources and support. Practicum students will be trained on the hotline and to do case management with clients in the counseling center. Under the guidance of the Agency Field Instructors (AFI) and Preceptors, practicum students will respond to counseling center clients seeking additional supports, resources, and assistance with navigating different systems in the community. All practicum students are required to complete a 50-hour victim advocacy training and didactic seminars throughout the semester.

The Bachelor level practicum commitment is determined by the academic program’s requirement of hours per week during the school semester (15 weeks). Students may complete either one or two semesters at SOH, depending on their program’s requirements. This practicum assignment is located at the Signs of HOPE Counseling Center office (Rancho location) and is from Monday – Thursday, between the hours of 8am – 6pm. Bilingual Spanish and other language applicants are encouraged to apply.

SOH accepts practicum students in the Fall and Spring semesters. There are no strict deadlines and applications are continually accepted. For more information, please email Liz@sohlv.org.

    Master’s Level Clinical

The SOH Counseling Center is currently a recognized practicum site for the following master level clinical programs:

    •   • University of Nevada Las Vegas Social Work
    •      MSW program (trauma and direct practice only)
    •   • University of Nevada Las Vegas Couple and
    •      Family Therapy (CFT) program
    •    • University of Nevada Reno Social Work MSW program

       • University of Southern California Social Work MSW program

Open to other programs with compatible interests, please email Liz at Liz@sohlv.org.

Our new counseling center practicum program allows master level clinical students a great opportunity for developing an understanding of interacting with the specific population that we serve. Practicum students will provide direct services to survivors of sexual assault, and their loved ones in need of extra resources and support. Under the guidance of the Agency Field Instructors (AFI) and Preceptors, practicum students will respond to counseling center potential clients seeking services at SOH, will conduct intake interviews and assessments, and will participate in individual and group therapy activities. All practicum students are required to complete a 50-hour victim advocacy training and didactic seminars throughout the semester.

The master level practicum commitment is a minimum of 8 hours per week during the school semester (15 weeks) and is based on the practicum student’s academic program requirements. Students must commit to at least two semesters at SOH, depending on their program’s requirements. This practicum assignment is located at the Signs of HOPE Counseling Center office (Rancho location) and is from Monday – Thursday, between the hours of 8am – 6pm.

SOH uses a developmental model for practicum students, and supervision will be provided with an emphasis on developing the practicum students’ clinical skills at the level they are at. We recognize that some students begin their first practicum experience here, and others come with more advanced clinical skills. All will be accommodated and appropriately assigned to their level of competence and training. SOH is an interdisciplinary counseling center and supervision may be provided by any fully licensed professional with at least two years of post-licensure experience. Bilingual Spanish and other language applicants are encouraged to apply.
