About Us

Founded in 1974 as Community Action Against Rape (CAAR), Signs of Hope (SOH) began as the combined effort of Florence McClure and Sandra Petta, two women living in Las Vegas who were outraged by the lack of resources and respect for those affected by sexual support and resources they need to move through the process of healing.

    October 23, 2024

    Dear Signs of HOPE Community,

I am thrilled to share some fantastic updates! First, we are proud to announce two new funding opportunities that will significantly strengthen our ability to serve those affected by sexual violence and human trafficking.

We are honored to have been awarded a substantial grant that will span three years from the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), part of the U.S. Department of Justice, which administers the Crime Victims Fund. This funding will support, enhance, and expand the comprehensive, victim-centered services provided through Signs of HOPE’s RISE program, offering both crisis response and long-term case management to victims of all forms of human trafficking.

Additionally, we are thrilled to announce a generous $50,000 donation from Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix. These funds will further support our crisis and long-term case management services for survivors of sexual assault and human trafficking.

Also, please mark your calendars for our upcoming fundraiser, Night Out with News 3! This event will not only help to raise funds but also celebrate our amazing honorees—Lori Nelson-Kraft and Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix, M.J. Maynard and RTC, Bryce Clarke and Tao Group Hospitality Cares. It promises to be a night filled with inspiration, celebration, and hope.

Lastly, I am honored to inform you that Signs of HOPE has been recognized by The Shade Tree with the Deacon Polly Award, highlighting our partnership and shared commitment to uplifting survivors of domestic violence. This award serves as a testament to the collective impact we are making together.

We hope to see you on December 11th at Night Out with News 3 as we celebrate Hope for the Holidays, a more hopeful future.

    With gratitude,

    Kim Small
    CEO, Signs of HOPE

Signs of HOPE at NCEDSV’s Economic Justice Retreat!

Recently, Signs of HOPE attended the Economic Justice Retreat hosted by NCEDSV to discuss topics of concern amongst local organizations and Nevada General Assembly Lawmakers.

Our team had the opportunity to collaborate with over a dozen statewide and regional agencies that serve some of the most marginalized and least represented Nevadans. These agencies provide housing, children’s advocacy, health services, employment, equity/equality, human trafficking, domestic and sexual violence resources, and more.

Thank you to NCEDSV for hosting this incredible event! We are proud to contribute to providing all Nevadans with equitable resources and economic opportunities while reducing the prevalence of power-based violence in our state.

Please welcome our new board member, Verna Griffin-Tabor, M.S.W.

We are thrilled to welcome Verna (Vee) Griffin-Tabor, M.S.W. to Signs of HOPE’s Board of Directors! Vee has worked in advocacy for survivors of sexual violence and IPV for over 40 years. From 1998 to 2023, she served as the CEO of Center for Community Solutions (CCS) —an innovative, non-profit social services agency serving survivors of sexual assault, human trafficking, domestic violence, and elder abuse in San Diego County.

Verna’s career has been dedicated to the prevention and intervention of sexual assault, relationship violence, elder abuse and human trafficking. She served on the board of the California Partnership to End Domestic Violence for five years as well as various community boards, including University of San Diego’s Advisory Board on Non-Profit Management and
Blue Shield of California’s Advisory Board.

Verna has achieved  numerous prestigious honors and awards. In 2019, she was named “Woman of the Year” by San Diego Magazine; San Diego Daily Transcript honored her as the “Distinguished Non-Profit Leader,” and she was a finalist for San Diego Business Journal’s “Non-Profit CEO Leader of the Year”.

We are so grateful to have Verna’s wealth of knowledge and experience to help us move forward in our mission to end sexual violence and human trafficking in Nevada! Please click here to learn more about Verna and her contributions to the industry.
